Style Watch: Golden Globes 2017
The rest of us might still be recovering from our Christmas overindulgence, but the stars of Hollywood were back to their usual glamorous selves at last night’s Golden Globes. The first major awards of the season, the Golden Globes are often seen as an indicator for Oscar success. And, if they also give us an idea of what we can expect in the style stakes for 2017, then we’re very excited.
So which famous faces get our vote for the best style of the night? Read on to find out.
Wearing a stunning embellished Marchesa gown, Chrissy Tiegen opted to keep her hair and makeup understated. A sleek ponytail showed off the model’s gorgeous bone structure, while a slick of deep red lipstick picked up the detailing on her dress. With earrings and a clutch bag in coordinating berry tones, Chrissy’s look set the bar for the evening.
With flowing waves and a figure-hugging golden dress, British actress Naomie Harris was the epitome of old-school red carpet glamour. Her classic ensemble was still contemporary thanks to the on-trend plunging neckline on her custom Armani Prive gown, while her soft ombre also kept the look fresh. Take a look at our Hollywood Waves Tutorial to mimic Naomie’s sophisticated look for your next special occasion.
The crop is set to be one of the key hair trends for 2017, so actress Ruth Negga’s sculpted style gets top marks from us. Teamed with a feline flick of liquid eyeliner, Ruth added edge to her floor-length sequin Louis Vuitton gown. Thinking of going for the chop this season? After making the transition from sultry redhead to blonde bombshell last year, Game Of Thrones actress Sophie has continued to wow us with her red carpet looks. With padded shoulders, panel detailing and a mix of sheer and solid fabrics, her Louise Vuitton gown was one of the most eye-catching of the night. To keep her look balanced, Sophie kept her makeup neutral with a light smokey eye and nude lip. Her golden locks were also kept simple in a sophisticated, straight style, while her white nail polish picked up the monochrome detailing of her dress.
Finally, a special mention has to go to Emma Stone. Her film, La La Land, picked up a record number of awards at the Golden Globes, winning the accolade in each category it was nominated in. This also meant a Best Actress award for Emma, and her look for the night is also a winner for us. In a custom Valentino gown that complemented her skin tone perfectly, the 28-year-old was a vision in blush and silver. Pared back makeup and a sophisticated up-do kept all eyes on the dress and statement jewelled necklace. Want to recreate Emma’s winning hairstyle? Our knotted chignon tutorial will show you how.
