What Is Colour Bonding? | SmartBond FAQs
You may know it as a bond multiplier, Olaplex or hair bonding – or you might never have heard of it before. Whatever your knowledge is now, rest assured that colour bonding is set to become huge news in the world of professional haircare – and we want to make sure that our guests have the very best. L’Oréal Professionnel ‘s SmartBond is now available in all Regis salons, and we’ve rounded up some of the most commonly asked questions about this hot new service.
Is this the same as Olaplex?
Olaplex is the brand name of a similar colour bonding treatment used to protect hair during lightening. While there are some differences, Smartbond is a great alternative for guests looking for a local salon offering Olaplex at a more affordable price.
How does SmartBond work?
Smartbond is a two-step process that allows the stylist to protect hair from damage during and immediately after your usual colour service. The first stage involves the Smartbond treatment being added to your usual hair colour and mixed in. The treatment can then take effect while your colour is developing, with no additional development time needed. Next, a second treatment is applied to your hair once your colour has been rinsed off as a pre-shampoo. There is also a take-home product available, which will help to strengthen your hair at home in between appointments.
Why do I need colour bonding?
Over-processed hair can be left feeling dry and damaged, and some people even report their hair breaking after having lightener applied. Colour bonding treatments help to protect each strand of hair during the lightening process.
Will colour bonding affect how my colour looks?
A bond multiplier will have no negative effect on how your colour turns out. In fact, you’re likely to find that your colour looks much better and more even as your hair will be in better condition.
How much does SmartBond cost at Regis?
When you’re having a colour service at Regis, prices for the additional Smartbond treatment will be from just £10. You can also have the treatment independent of a colour service for just £15 – perfect for keeping your hair in great condition in between colour appointments!
Will my service take longer if I have the colour bonding treatment?
The first part of the Smartbond treatment is mixed in with your lightener or hair colour, meaning there is no additional application time. The second part of the treatment takes just ten minutes to work its magic, and so is the same as having a deep conditioning treatment applied to your hair after colouring.
Is colour bonding just for people going lighter?
While the results of SmartBond are great for guests using bleach to lighten their hair, all colours benefit from a bond multiplier. Whether you’re going lighter, darker, just getting highlights or tinting your whole head, chemicals are involved that can damage your hair. Bonding is therefore essential for all colour services, whatever shade you choose.
