Glam at the Globes
The 69th annual Golden Globes awards were held last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California to mark the year’s finest film and television productions, both domestic and foreign.
With some fantastic new films and shows screened in 2011, it was difficult to pick the winner from each category. However, the best of British came home with some top-notch awards with the likes of Idris Elba winning Best Performance in a Mini-series for Luther and Downtown Abbey pipping the fantastic Kate Winslet-starring Mildred Pierce to Best Mini-series.
Meanwhile, the stars shone on the red carpet with plenty of Hollywood glam on show. We picked our favourites, what were yours?
Angelina looks every bit the classic Hollywood star last night as she accompanied husband Brad Pitt who was up for Best Actor for his baseball film, Moneyball. Although Brad ultimately lost out to George Clooney for his turn in Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, it was Mrs. Pitt who stole the show with her absolutely stunning classic-Hollywood look.
Recently seen in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and also set to appear in Steven Spielberg’s latest film, The War Horse, Benedict is back on our screens with the second series of the BBC’s Sherlock, alongside Martin Freeman. Looking incredibly smart and dapper on the red carpet last night, it’s easy to see why Mr. Cumberbatch is on the minds of just about everyone at the moment.
The star of the new The Girl the the Dragon Tattoo remake, Rooney Mara opted for a simple, slicked-back, sleek wet-look that brought out her stunning cheekbones and bright eyes. With a strong side parting that is bang-on trend, Rooney was up for the best actress award but ultimately lost out to Meryl Streep. She is however the woman to watch right now so check out The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo if you’re planning a cinema trip soon.
British viewers may have spotted Zooey in the latest American TV show to hit our screens, New Girl, but she’s been making waves on the indie scene for years in films such as (500) Days of Summer and Almost Famous, and as the singer in her band, She & Him. Looking very 60’s with her sparkling Prada gown and heavy fringe, Zooey confirmed what a fashion icon she really is becoming.
