Marilyn Monroe: Icon

With her platinum blonde hair, dazzling smile and all-round star quality it’s no wonder so many of us are still enamoured with Marilyn Monroe more than 50 years since her untimely death. Movie star, paparazzi darling and all round icon: despite her early death at just 36 years old, Marilyn’s name, image and work have lived on and will continue to live on and be celebrated by millions.

Marilyn, who starred in such classics as Some Like it Hot, The Seven Year Itch and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, was married three times, including to baseball star Joe DiMaggio and playwrite Arthur Miller.

Whilst imitated by many, and even portrayed on film by the likes of Mira Sorvino and Michelle Williams, there will only ever be one Marilyn Monroe. Guy Cammarano, the UK Creative Director of Regis Salons, says, “Marilyn’s look is classic, it’s historical, it’s cultural. When you think of a blonde-haired Hollywood beauty, you may automatically think of Marilyn Monroe. Her soft, blonde locks are up there with the best of Hollywood’s golden era beauties – Jane Mansfield, Kim Novak, Brigitte Bardot.

If you’re ever tempted to emulate Marilyn’s signature style we recommend using Wella SP Elegant Shape styling mousse. Work a small amount of the mousse into damp hair, before blow drying and setting the hair in Velcro rollers for 10-15 minutes. Following this comb out your curls with your fingers, finish with a light amount of Wella SP Perfect Hold mist and it’s happy birthday Mr. President!”

We don’t know about you, but we’re cracking out a bottle of wine, our copy of Some Like it Hot, and celebrating the unique star that was Marilyn Monroe!

Our top five favourite Monroe characters:
