Mary Katrantzou at the London Fashion Week

Anna Till, member of the Regis Artistic Team and colour educator at our Brent Cross salon, was invited to the London Fashion Week by Wella Professionals to style the hair for the models in the Mary Katrantzou show. Here’s her story…

When I was asked to work at London Fashion Week I was both excited and nervous at the same time. Such a fantastic opportunity was given to me and there was no way I was going to even consider turning it down.

An early start was required so I arrived at the Topshop show space at 6.00 am and we were straight to it with all hands on deck. Our lead stylist Anthony Turner from the Wella Professionals Creative Team demonstrated on a model the style he wanted us to recreate – a top knot on the top of the head – a style that I predict will be hot this season. It’s a great look for the Summer and will be bang-on trend come your holidays in the sun.

As you can expect from a high-profile fashion show, the vibe in the room was both tense and exhilarating. Once the models arrived we got down to their hair, then it was onto the make-up.

We worked in teams of two and began to apply Wella Professionals Shape Control mouse to the hair. We then blow-dried all the hair up to the top of the head, using a flat brush or maison, working together to take sections to put in a ponytail right on the top centre of the head.

The hairspray we used on the models was the Wella Professionals Stay Essential finishing spray. The ponytail was then back-combed roots to tips then pinned in to create a messy bun style.

The models looked amazing and with thirty minutes to showtime we were really pulling together to make this happen. The atmosphere in the room was electric and everyone was buzzing about how good it all looked when the press arrived to take photos and do their interviews.

When the show started, we were excitedly hanging around backstage to spray and pin any hair that had moved during costume changes.

What a great feeling when we had finished. Everybody was clapping and cheering the success of the show and all I can say is WOW!!! Such an amazing fantastic time I had at the Mary Katrantzou show!
