Ask the Expert: How to Nail NYE Hair

As 2017 comes to a close, it’s time to welcome in the New Year in style. Whether you’re saying hello to 2018 by partying with friends or spending the night in with family, you’re going to want to be looking your best. That’s why we’ve quizzed our Creative Director, Kieron Fowles, on all the hair styling advice you could need for a New Year’s Eve to remember. Take a look at his top tips, and you can keep your hairstyle looking great all through the night.

Long, Strong and Healthy

“When you’re attending many events and celebrating throughout Christmas, it’s important not to forget about the health of your hair,” explains Kieron, “Drinking alcohol can dehydrate your hair in the same way it dehydrates your skin. When hair is dry, it can become weak and brittle, making it more prone to split ends. Use treatments and hair protein agents to keep the condition feeling amazing and rehydrated for the festive and New Year’s season.”

Kieron recommends using Designline Silk Drops Repair and Silk Shine Serum (£12.99) daily, to give your hair the hydration it needs.

Colour for Days

“Changing the colour of your hair doesn’t always mean you require a dramatic transformation. By updating your hair with low commitment colour placement with contouring tones and methods such as balayage, this can actually subtly complement your natural base. This will also help your hair to grow and mature over the season, not only giving you a great colour but longevity too.” To find out more about switching up your style, why not get in touch with the stylist at your local salon? Once you’ve got your new colour, we recommend ghd Heat Protection Spray (£12.95) to protect hair from everyday heat damage.

Hold Tight

“So you’ve styled your hair perfectly, and you’re ready to party. But how do you get your look lasting through the night? When using curling tongues or heated rollers, always use a heat protector first. Setting sprays can also help to hold the waves in place, however much you move around the dancefloor.

If you’re looking to keep your ‘do lasting all the way through New Year’s Day too, then use serums to hydrate and dry shampoo to give your waves longevity for that second day wear.” To give your hair a real lift, Kieron loves using Tigi Bed Head Oh Bee Hive Dry Shampoo, (£13.95).
