Autumn Up-dos

With the weather doing crazy things already, we’re well into an unruly Autumn season for our hair. We firmly believe that all it takes is the right styling to keep yours in check, and there’s nothing more glamorous than a well held updo to give your look some high impact glamour as the nights draw in. Whether you’re going for retro flair, modern chic or timeless classics, get the styling right and you’ll always turn heads for all the right reasons.

Bradley Byrnes from The Edge goes for the wearable and timeless look

“A quick and easy look that still packs a punch is to place hair in a high ponytail and then plait it. Give it the up-to-date twist by pull pieces out of the braid at random then wrap it around like a bun and secure with pins. It’s a beautiful look to wear day or night and provides a great change from the topknots that dominated the past year. Finish off with TIGI Head Rush(£14) and Redken Quick Dry(£12.50) to give weatherproof hold and textured finish.”

Of course, our Party style is one of our biggest Autumn favourites, giving the 60s ponytail a little bit of an update. The look follows the retro influence of icons like Brigitte Bardot with big, high volume on the crown and a face framing parted fringe, while the ponytail is given some roughed up texture for a chic detail. Keep the finish matte for a modernised version like the updos on the Carolina Herrera catwalks, or get it sleek if you’re a glitz lover at heart. Use Kerastase Couture Spray A Porter (£23) to get that matte finish, with built in hold as you create your back-combed and volumised crown section.

If you want something that’s hot off the catwalk and undeniably NOW, embrace the low ponytail trend. Seen on catwalks from Oscar de la Renta to Chloé and Galliano, there’s no denying its making it huge comeback among the fashion pack. Go for super-straight and sleek, casually fastened at the nape of the neck. Don’t worry about rain-induced frizz, embrace the texture it creates like the lightly undone looks at Richard Chai Love’s catwalk show. Worried about it looking too casual? Making your side parting hard and fast with a tail comb and TIGI Hard Head spray (£8.85).

What’s your Autumn style pick? Don’t hide your locks under hats and scarves, get it set and defy the elements!
