Desk to date night | Try these easy Valentine’s Hairstyles

Regis Valentine's Hairstyles Inspo

Valentine’s Day may fall on a Friday this year, but for most of us that still means we’ll be heading to our V-day date straight from the office. However, the solution is quite simple: Find a Valentine’s hairstyle that can easily be transformed from day-look to night-glam.

Whether you have a romantic date lined up with your significant other or spending Valentine’s Day with your gal pals, we have a hairstyle to suit. Cynics will tell you it’s just another commercialized day, but we think any excuse to try out a new hairstyle can only be a good thing! We love love. 💞 And since we believe that we don’t just need one day a year to share our love and kindness, Valentine’s Day simply becomes another occasion to glam up and try a new hairstyle.

Now with that said, here are 7 hairstyles, handpicked by our in house hair experts, that you can wear straight from your desk to your date.

💕

Valentine’s Hairstyle #1: Romantic Braid

This floaty, romantic braid is perfect if you’re going for the ‘girl-next-door’ look. To avoid looking like a school-kid throwback however, ensure you pull your braid apart for that feathery, ethereal feel. Pull out your fringe and if it’s long enough, curl it back slightly with your straighteners for added chicness. Boost volume by working in dry shampoo throughout the braid, not forgetting to leave out a few ¼ inch sections to frame your face.

This look is perfect for dress-down Fridays in the office followed by a romantic, evening dinner date.

Valentine’s Hairstyle #2: High Pony 60s Glam

The 2020 redux of the high pony comes with a nod to the sexy 60s. For most of us, hair extensions are not needed for this version as this is more about the style, than the length. It works best when the ponytail sits on or slightly above your shoulders. But if you’d like extra thickness, we recommend clip ins to minimise any pulling and damage to hair.

To get the look ensure you have a strong side parting and secure your swooping fringe by pinning it discreetly behind your ear. Wrap a small section from your ponytail around the base too so that it completes your look and hides your hair bobble. And to transform this look for date-night? Simply pull out your ‘work straighteners’ from your desk drawer (every girl should have a pair to hand, right?) and gently flick the ends of your ponytail outwards. There, you’ve nailed it. Just be sure to use plenty of hairspray and ensure your pony’s looking glossed up to the max and shiny. Ultra-glam 60s vibe? Check.

Valentine’s Hairstyle #3: Wispy Pixie

This is probably the easiest hairstyle to create before you head out of the office to your meet your date. All you’ll need to have in your handbag is a texturizing spray, (some dry shampoo if you need a little volume boost), and a light hold hairspray. If you’re planning on using some dry shampoo, aim for your roots and apply this before anything else. Next, ruffle your hair with your fingers after spritzing a little texture spray. We find tipping our head downwards does the trick, though a little roughage goes a long way if you want to avoid the ‘electrocuted’ look.

We love, love, love a swooping side fringe on a pixie cut as it can be elegant and quirky all at once. Once you’re happy with your tousled sections, finish by lightly adding a little light-hold hairspray. You will want your hair to have natural movement so avoid going OTT with the hold or it’ll just turn rock solid, and that’s certainly not what this style intends.

Valentine’s Hairstyle #4:  Modern Day Rapunzel

Valentine's Hairstyles Jesy Nelson Glam Long Hair

Long haired girls – this one’s for you. Picture this: straight and sleek for when you’re in business-mode during the day 💼 , followed by soft, tumbling waves for your glam Valentine’s date. Simply switch your parting to a side part and begin curling large sections of your hair. Yes, you’ll need to have a wand or tong handy in your drawer for this, though if you’re a curl-queen pro 👑, you can probably master the look with your straighteners too. 👊

If you haven’t got time to curl your whole head before you head out, as most long haired girls can attest to, simply concentrate your curls around your face and pull your hair over your shoulder (opposite side to your parting).

Remember to pull your curls apart so that they are transformed into loose, curvaceous waves to complete your date night style. Face framing waves can look just as glam as a full head of curls, and besides, the time you save here can be spent with your hot date. 😻

Valentine’s Hairstyle #5: 2020 Shine on a 90s Lob

Now this one is seriously easy. Transform your shoulder length hair, lob, long-lob, collar-bone grazer (whatever you like to call it!) into a glamorous Valentine’s hairstyle. The 2020 update to this 90s inspired bob is all in the shine. In fact, this style is *so* glossy and shiny that your date will probably find it difficult to resist the temptation to touch it. 👧👈

We recommend using a hair mask four times in the two weeks leading up to your date. This will ensure it’s looking naturally shiny and hydrated, meaning you’ll have to rely less on styling products on the actual day.

To amp up your shine before you leave work and head to your date, pour 6 drops of hair serum into your palm and gently rub your hands together. Run your hands through the mid-end lengths of your hair. Use up any residual serum left on your hands by neatly finger-combing through the hair by the crown of your head and pull downwards. It’s important you start applying serum towards the bottom of your hair first to avoid an imbalanced coverage. As your scalp naturally produces oil, our stylists advise that less is more by your roots as you want your hair to look nourished and hydrated, not greasy. 💦

Valentine’s Hairstyle #6: Top Knotch Knot

This top knot is top knotch. We love this hairstyle as it works for every occasion and is the perfect way to take your look from the boardroom to any fancy soirée. Little is done to transform your look for your Valentine’s date too, which means a little spritz touch-up of hairspray is all you’ll need to do.

To get the look, it’s best to start with second day hair. The added natural oils in your hair make it easier to slick down any lumps and bumps on your head. If you’re sporting a fringe, we recommend adding a little dry shampoo to this part in the morning to give it a pick-me-up. Nothing looks worse than a flat fringe, right?

Next, tie your hair up into a high pony which tends to be just above the crown of your head. Add in an extra bobble if you’d like to add a little height to your top knot. Now, begin wrapping your hair around the base of your pony and secure with bobby pins. This might take a few attempts to get right, so keep at it until you’ve found the perfect twist around bun.

Those who get it right on the first attempt are simply hair *goddesses*… and we salute you. 👸 🙌

Valentine’s Hairstyle #7: Half ‘n’ Half

Valentine's Hairstyles Dani Dyer Half Up Waves

Can’t decide? Half and half it! A half updo is universally flattering, no matter the length. Our stylists love this look with soft, face-framing waves. The best part? You can rock up to work with this ‘do without it looking ‘too done up’. This means that come 5 o’clock, you’ll be able to clock out without having to worry about restyling for your date.

To get the look, curl 1 ½ inch sections of freshly washed hair, concentrating your curl points at the mid-ends of your hair. This is especially important if you have longish hair that sits past your shoulders. Wait for your hair to cool down and then brush through with a wide tooth comb. You’ll notice that the gentle waves concentrated towards the bottom of your hair tone down the ‘glam-ness’ of this look, making it office appropriate.

Next, grab the top layer of your hair and clip into place either with or without a small quiff around the crown of your head. Pull loose some strands around your face to create a sweet, flirty feel. Finish with a good setting spray to ensure your waves last all day (and night) and voila, you’re ready for your desk job and your date.

If you’d like to up the anti for your date night before you leave work, simply switch your regular clip with an embellished clip. It’s as easy as that. 💁
