Autumn Winter Hair Colours: Glossy tints, shadow roots and warm highlights are the trends to ask for

Autumn winter hair

These are the autumn winter hair colours to ask for at your next appointment.

No, we can’t quite believe it either. Autumn is upon us. Yet before you know it (sorry in advance for mentioning the ‘C’ word) we’ll be putting up the Christmas tree! It feels like we blinked and hazy days in the garden sipping on cocktails have become a distant memory. The shops are packed with autumn clothes (giant bags, waist belts and brown outerwear are back again) and just like that we’re ready to share our autumn / winter hair colour trends.

Our stylists are keen to ensure we all get our autumn winter hair colour sorted just in case there’s another lockdown (please no!), so we sat them down (virtually of course) and chatted all things hair. They’re a busy bunch at the moment so it wasn’t long before they were whisked off to the salon floors again. But we did manage to quiz them all about autumn winter hair colour trends so you know exactly what to ask for on your next trip to a Regis salon.

Here are the 5 key autumn / winter hair colour trends that will dominate this season.

Shadow roots

As we emerge from our quarantine cocoons, word is most of us are looking for a more low-maintenance autumn winter hair colour this year. Let it be known that for blondes, this is the perfect option. Lived-in, more natural looking hair is definitely one of the most popular trends this year as a whole (can’t imagine what’s brought that on, can you?). Plus, our Colour Refresh services means you can revive your natural-looking colour in between your full service appointments. Do you know what that means? You won’t have to spend hours in the salon to give your hair colour a little refresh. It’s the covid-conscious way and we are here to accommodate. It’s a win-win colour choice if you ask us. The key to this look is that it’s blended well, which is why getting this done at a hair salon is key.

Contrasting colours

Contrasting colours started to become popular this summer, (thanks to the likes of Dua Lipa and Ruby Rose), and judging by our appointment books this trend is likely to continue well into autumn/winter. This is a great choice for those who like a bold, standout hair colour and who like to experiment with their look. It also works really well for brunettes who want to add some lighter face framing pieces to their hair (circa Jamie Genevieve and THAT chunky money piece). In fact it works well for all hair colours, even bold and bright shades. Just take a look at our Insta feed if you’re looking for pops of colour and striking contrasts for inspiration.

Warm highlights

Highlights are a great way to add depth and dimension to your look according to our stylists; they’re a classic colour technique. Warm shades in particular are starting to become really popular too which is a move away from the icy silvers and pearly platinums we’ve seen so much of the last 18 months. Think champagne, caramel and honey tones, and you’re along the right track for your new autumn winter hair. Note how these warmer shades work wonders to add softness to the hair too, whilst looking shiny and fuller.

Reflective red

Muted red tones are having a moment right now. And if our salon appointments are anything to go by, they will only become more sought after. Red has always been one of the most in demand colours for party season. This year, regardless of whether we’re having to resort to virtual Christmas parties, party hair is still going to be big. Maybe even bigger (literally). Most likely to make up for the quarantine-led lives and lockdown hair we’ve been subject to for a significant portion of the year.

Reflective red tones in particular are ideal party season shades. We’ve seen a flurry of cherry, wine and ruby tones leave our salons already. To achieve this a number of techniques can be used: highlights and all over colours, balayages and ombres or even chunky slashes. The choice is yours in terms of how you showcase your red. You can opt for a subtle but effective pop of red that provides the hair with a shimmer and multi-dimensional look. Or you can choose a tint for an all over rich red hue.

Glossy tints

What was the second most missed aspect when salons were closed? The first quite obviously having to deal with that hideous band of root regrowth. But coming in at a close second was coping with dull and lustreless hair. Nothing beats a salon professional hair treatment which, when applied by the experts, has the ability to reconstruct bonds. Take our Wellaplex treatment for instance, it helps achieve a seriously healthy head of hair full of shine and radiance. Or how about an amazing glossing service that leaves locks lustrously shiny and luminous? Oh, how we’ve missed you, shiny locks!

It’s no surprise then that tints with a glossy look and feel is a priority for so many of our salon guests. As we look at autumn winter hair, this trend develops further with extreme shine becoming one of the biggest must-haves for the season. A root tint works perfectly to cover greys and blend seamlessly with your natural shade, while the all over glossing treatment works hard to inject a mirror like reflective shine like no other. Remember glass hair? Well she’s back, but this time she’s a little fine-drawn and dare we say it, grown into a sophisticated version of her former self. Perfect for natural-looking hair colours, according to our experts.
