Style Watch: The Oscars 2016

The Oscars is always the most glamorous awards ceremony and a fitting close to awards season. The 88th Academy Awards were memorable for so many reasons, not least for Leonardo DiCaprio finally getting his hands on one!
From Jennifer Lawrence in lace Dior Haute Couture to Cate Blanchett’s striking embellished Armani Privé gown, there was just as much to talk about when it came to red carpet style. Always, our main focus was the hair and there were some stunning looks on display. Here’s a few of our favourites…
First up it’s back to Ms. Lawrence. We love the understated elegance of her look. She kept her blonde locks sleek and straight with this season’s must-have centre parting. This style works for all hair lengths; the key is to keep frizziness at bay. Start the smoothing process before you blow dry, by applying a heat activated styling cream (we love TIGI Bed Head Straighten Out) to damp hair for a well-groomed finish.
Best Actress winner Brie Larson and Best Supporting Actress Alicia Vikander led the trend for half updos. Brie opted for super glamorous curls and intricately detailed hair clip. Alicia meanwhile chose a more relaxed half bun with tousled ends. To achieve Brie’s style, blow dry hair smooth and use a large barrel tong (like the ghd Curve Soft Curl Tong) to create a soft wave through the ends. Alicia’s look is all about texture to work a texturising product like Kérastase Spray à Porter through towel-dried hair and blast dry. Finish by curling 3-4 inch sections at random with a curling wand for a beachy finish – try the ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand.
Emily Blunt showed us how to rock maternity wear on the red carpet with her pink Prada gown. She teamed her sophisticated dress with classic Hollywood waves for a timeless look. Red carpet curls are so easy to create, just follow our step-by-step guide.
