The British Soap Awards 2013 – Best Looks

The faces we love to watch every week on telly got together this weekend to celebrate the best and brightest of British Soap. With awards like Best Villain and Sexiest Male and Female up for grabs, the British Soap Awards are always one of the more fun and lighthearted of the award shows, and an excuse for the young stars to get glam for the evening.

There was plenty of glitz on show in the dress department, but it was of course the hairstyles that we were tuned in to, with plenty of soapstar ladies giving their personal take on red carpet looks.

A far cry from the occasionally dodgy looks of the McQueen sisters, Hollyoaks stars Jennifer Metcalfe and Gemma Merna looked sleek and classic. With Jennifer displaying her ombre locks with tumbling, sideswept curls, her look is low effort but high impact. Meanwhile, Gemma’s slicked back look combines hair textures for an of the moment take on the high ponytail.

Keeping things youthful and trend-led, Emmerdale star Charley Webb gave the tried and tested topknot a fresh edge by opting for a neat, braided bun.

Our favourite style of the night, however, goes to Hollyoaks’ Anna Shaffer. Abandoning her character Ruby’s natural curls for the evening, Anna’s long waves add some stunning glamour to her ensemble, and elevate her above her teenage look in the soap. UK Creative & Education Director, Guy Cammarano, says you can get this style on any texture of hair with the right blowdry –

“Whether it’s done by a professional, or at home, the key to this look is a soft, straight blow-out with your hairdryer. Next incorporate curls into the look using your tongs or ghds to create loose curls, which can be kept soft by separating with your fingers before applying hairspray.”

Who were your favourite winners and looks of the evening? Did your favourites lose out?
