What’s your proudest achievement in your career so far?
Before joining Regis, I owned some of my own salon franchises and one won Retailer Of The Year and another Salon Of The Year out of 3,000 salons which was a fantastic achievement. Seeing the smile on my team’s faces as we went on stage to collect our award made all of the hard work worth it and I felt very proud.
What do you think makes Regis stand out in the hairdressing world?
Education is at the heart of what we do and we pride ourselves on delivering industry-leading training to all our salons and stylists. We know that by investing in stylists through education it will deliver better results for the salons through having more capable stylists, offering better service and delighting more guests. We also recognise how important it is to keep and motivate stylists and to create on-going development programmes that will support their career within the company.
What do you enjoy most about being Regis’ UK Head of Technical Education?
Every single day is different! I love managing my team of educators and continuously progressing our education offering. Seeing our educators develop and succeed makes me very proud.
What are your aspirations for Regis’ education team/ programme?
Continuing to achieve outstanding feedback from all who come on our courses and really investing in creating career paths within the company for all our team members. 2016 will see the launch of a foundation course for Regis: we want to invest in our teams right from the start so we’ll be offering them a strong foundation to build on throughout their career.
What three qualities do you think make a good educator?
- Endless patience and the ability to embrace the different learning styles and pace of each student.
- Passion for what you do.
- Substantial knowledge of all things relevant to the industry and to our brand.
If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring stylists, what would it be?
Find a company that will invest in your career and continue to educate you, that’s what we aim to do at Regis. Hairdressers never stop learning and a company that will invest in your education is always worthwhile. Hairdressing is such a fast-moving industry, there’s always something new to learn.
Name some of your personal fashion and style inspirations.
I love vintage, ‘90s and retro denims I would say my style icons are Alexa Chung and the Olsen Twins.
