TOP TIPS TO TAME FRIZZY HAIR

TOP TIPS TO TAME FRIZZY HAIR

Frizzy hair is more common than you think and can be a daily struggle for many. The good news, however, is that there are many things you can do to prevent and manage it.

We’re here with top tips from Creative Director Kieron Fowles so you can say goodbye to unruly locks, and hello to smooth, silky hair.

WHAT DOES FRIZZY HAIR LOOK LIKE, AND WHAT CAUSES IT?

Frizz is noticeable when individual strands of hair diverge in various directions, failing to maintain a cohesive and smooth appearance. This leads to puffy, and noticeably distressed hair, forming a halo of fuzzy bits across the entire head and surface.

Here are some reasons you could be experiencing frizzy hair:

  • Dry damaged strands
  • Irregular texture
  • Loss of elasticity
  • Wavy coarse hair
  • Split ends
  • Heat damage
  • Humidity
  • Not using the correct products for your hair

Now we’ve identified the causes of frizz, let's move on to how you can treat it.

HOW TO PREVENT AND MANAGE FRIZZY HAIR

TIP #1 – KEEP UP WITH REGULAR TRIMS.

Schedule regular trims every 4-6 weeks to remove damaged ends. This will promote healthy hair growth and keep those strands nourished to prevent dryness, frizz, and breakage.

TIP #2 – STAY HYRDRATED.

Hydration is key. Drinking plenty of water is not only great for your overall physical health, but it can also help to nourish your skin and hair.

TIP #3 – TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR WHEN YOU SLEEP.

If you can, invest in a silk pillowcase. Cotton pillowcases can cause friction, leading to frizz and breakage. Swapping to silk will reduce friction and help maintain your hairs smoothness.

If you like to sleep with your hair up, try to refrain from using elastic hair bobbles. Use a silk scrunchie to relieve pressure on the hair and prevent breakage.

We also recommend investing in a head wrap so that you can leave treatments in whilst you sleep. You’ll be grateful in the morning when you wake up with nourished, silky-smooth hair.

TIP #4 – BE GENTLE WHEN YOU DRY YOUR HAIR.

Hair is weaker when wet so make sure you’re not vigorously rubbing it dry! Instead, gently pat the hair with a microfiber towel or even an old t-shirt to absorb excess water, without causing damage.

TIP #5 – USE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS TO TREAT YOUR HAIR CONCERN.

When cleansing your hair with shampoo and conditioner, avoid using hot water as this aggravates and swells the cuticle. Instead, finish off with a cold-water rinse to seal the hair cuticle and enhance shine.

You also want to make sure you’re using professional hair care products that suit your hair type and texture.  Take time to treat your hair with hydration and targeted anti-frizz products. Invest in a good quality range which will add moisture and protect from frizz, humidity, and heat.

TIP #6 – LIMIT THE USE OF HEATED TOOLS.

Excessive heat styling can severely damage and dry out the hair so where possible, leave your hair to naturally dry and finish with a blast of the hair dryer. When using heated tools, make sure you’re using a heat protector and try opting for the cooler settings to prevent frying your hair.

TIP #7 – USE FINISHING STYLING PRODUCTS.

A finishing oil, serum or cream really helps to smooth and set the hair for some serious shine. These products can often be used when styling in between washes to tame the frizz and create an enviro shield on humidity.

FINAL WORD

Remember, to tame those frizzy strands it’s all about consistency. Unfortunately, frizzy hair won’t just disappear overnight – or it will, but it will be right back the next day.

Keep on top of your trims, treatments, and general health to keep your locks healthy throughout all seasons.
